The adaptation of ‘The Punisher’ on Netflix began to have extremely good ratings when Marvel decided to break its agreement with the streaming giant, as a result, the program had to be canceled along with the rest of the other productions from ‘The Defenders’, However, now that the studio will be able to bring back its characters again, Marvel plans to reboot the series with Jon Bernthal in the title role.

Although the film adaptations that have been made previously about the character were not very successful, the series was something totally different, Jon Bernthal is even said to be the best Punisher that has existed so far, for that reason, Marvel wants to take advantage of the success that the character got on Netflix to develop their own production.

Although Jon Bernthal is likely to re-epitomize the antihero, the new series will not follow the events we saw in the Netflix account of the story, but will be a whole new storyline and one that is sure to hit Hulu, since the character will remain extremely violent, therefore, the series cannot be broadcast on Disney +.

According to the report by Mikey Sutton, Marvel is planning to produce a series of ‘The Punisher’ meant for the adult audience and that will be based on the comic, ‘War Journal’. The extruding aspect is that they want Jon Bernthal to return to play Frank Castle, something that seems very probable since in the past the actor has said that he would love to continue playing this role.

“There has been chatter about either FX or Hulu for the Punisher to hunt and kill criminals, free from censorship. Regardless of which of the two he ends up, details have begun to emerge on where his future stands,” Sutton explained.

He also went on to say, “Marvel Studios intends to bring back Bernthal; however, it doesn’t mean the new series will follow the continuity of the Netflix program especially when the multiverse can now explain it away. Or it can they will simply not refer to it. Marvel Studios would like other adult-oriented heroes to guest including Daredevil (as with Bernthal, they’d love for Charlie Cox to reprise the role) and Samuel L. Jackson in his foul-mouthed Fury, Secondly, the show could be called Punisher War Journal, just as the 80s comic book.”

This is how a reboot of ‘The Punisher’ with Jon Bernthal is in the works, fortunately, the studio will continue to maintain the violent profile of the character, since the public would not surely accept that it lose its essence. For their part, Marvel promises to make a great series about this character, maybe even better than the one we see on Netflix.
