Justice League is now one of the most controversial productions in recent Hollywood history.
Zack Snyder’s film was heavily altered by Joss Whedon, and what we had in theaters was quite different. But Snyder Cut, the original director’s version, will finally be released by HBO Max, after a strong campaign by Justice League fans .
Check below what was left out of the theaters version and that will be in Snyder’s version:
Darkseid
That was what all the fans wanted to see. The most powerful and fearsome villain in the DC universe, who was even a source of inspiration for Thanos at Marvel, would have an appearance in the version of Zack Snyder. The villain would have been prominent in the extended battle scene for Maternal Boxes in the past, and also in the final act, when he would face the Justice League after the defeat of the Steppe Wolf.
The Origin Cyborg
One of the most modified characters in the final version of Justice League was Ray Fisher’s Cyborg. Previously, we would have had the origin story with Victor Stone playing football, having his almost lethal accident and becoming the Cyborg. Along the plot, we would have had more flashbacks and hallucination sequences, where Victor interacted with his family – having a more melancholy characterization.
Keeping the Cyborg’s tragic arc in the feature, his father, Silas Stone, was to eventually die at the hands of parademons during the battle at STAR Labs. This would have made Ray Fisher’s hero more motivated to face the Steppe Wolf.
Iris West
Another character who’s background was significantly deleted was Barry Allen played by Ezra Miller, the Flash. In a scene that had leaked, we saw Barry saving Iris West from an accident on the street. The characters great love interest was played by Kiersey Clemmons.
Steppenwolf Visual
Steppenwolf is one of the worst superhero movie villains in history, and yet much of the design we saw on the released version had a generic look. Apparently, he was supposed to look horrifying and bestial, just like in the deleted scene from Batman vs. Superman.
Green Lantern
We had the brief participation of an alien Green Lantern in the battle against Darkseid’s armies in the prologue, but Snyder’s original version promised to bring something more with the galactic hero. In a Cyborg hallucination scene, we would have seen the Lantern Corps ship, and a rumor still claims that the new Earth Lantern was to pay Bruce Wayne a visit in the post-credit scene.
The Martian Hunter
In one of his many posts on the social network Vero, Snyder brought a bomb reveal to fans. Justice League was going to reveal that General Calvin Swanwick, Harry Lennix’s character, was actually the hero Marstian Manhunter in disguise among humans.
Lex Luthor
Jesse Eisenberg’s divisive performance as Lex Luthor, the great villain of Superman, ended up resulting in Warner to almost completely erase his participation in the Justice League. Conceptual art shows that Luthor would have a diary of notes where he studied about the Parademons at Arkham Asylum.
Battle at STAR Labs
We can see several excerpts in trailers and elements that were released by Snyder himself in Vero, that the Justice League was supposed to spend a few moments at STAR Laboratories. Probably to retrieve one of the Mother Boxes, which would result in a major battle against parademons.
The Nightmare with Darkseid
In Batman vs. Superman, Bruce Wayne has a nightmare about a dystopian future dominated by Darkseid and the parademons. This future is revealed when a vision of Flash, which tries to alert him to the dangers of Darkseid. In Justice League, the Cyborg was supposed have a new glimpse of that future by connecting to the Kryptonian spacecraft.
Superman In Black Costume
The image of Henry Cavill with a beard and a black suit, referencing Superman’s death in the comics, was something vastly dreamed of by fans. This did not happen, but a deleted scene shows that the black suit was on the Kryptonian spacecraft.
Death of Steppenwolf
The fate of the Steppenwolf was quite different in the original version. While the alien villain is carried by his parademons back to the spaceship’s Boom Tube, he was originally to be beheaded by Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman.
Vulko Introduction
We only saw Vulko, Aquaman’s mentor played by Willem Dafoe, in the solo film starring Jason Momoa, but he was supposed to make his debut in the League film. Vulko was to appear at the end to ask for Arthur’s help, already establishing the conflict with Orm which occured in the James Wan film.
