Jude Law is reportedly in talks to play Captain Hook on Disney’s next live action adaptation of Peter Pan titled Peter Pan and Wendy.

The film will be based on the 1953 animated classics. Meanwhile, Disney has to face an official live-action version of the iconic story about Peter, Tinkerbell, and the wonderful world of Neverland. Other studios have made their own adaptations, with varying degrees of success.

There have been multiple versions, with two of the most notable attempts including the 2015 Joe Wright movie Pan, which starred Rooney Mara, Garrett Hedlund, Amanda Seyfried, and Hugh Jackman, but it was an unfortunate box office flop. Before that, was Robin Williams’ Hook, who also underperformed, but is fans most favorite adaptation.

Not much is known about the project, other than the director, screenwriters, and producers. David Lowery, who previously directed Pete’s Dragon, helmed the film and co-wrote the script with Toby Halbrooks. Jim Whitaker was the producer.

Variety indicated that if Law is cast as the popular Disney villain, he will join the list of prestigious actors who have already played Captain Hook in previous films such as Hedlund, Jason Isaacs, and Dustin Hoffman.

Reactions on social media have been mixed, as they often are when it comes to Disney live-action adaptations.

That said, online critics have not stopped certain movies performing relatively well at the box office. Last year alone, Disney raised more than $ 2 billion with Aladdin and The Lion King, despite the two films receiving mediocre critical reception. The studio is already developing a sequel to the Aladdin live-action movie.

Peter Pan and Wendy is expected to make a theatrical debut and not on the Disney + streaming service.
