Their plan is to reinforce the original content of programming for HBO Max, and the founder of Knight Edge Media, Caleb Williams, seems to be suggesting that Grindelwald could be a candidate to star in his own show:

Series of the Wizarding World would be a natural progression for the franchise, since, Warner Bros. really wants to compete, through HBO Max against other platforms by creating original content, so it makes sense to consider a great character lived by a great star.
