Gerard Butler will become the Ghost of Sparta in the God of War film adaptation that Sony Pictures plans to shoot in 2021 to be released in 2022.
Sony Pictures remains focused on making adaptations of some of the most popular video game franchises that are exclusive to PlayStation. Following the successful completion of shootings for the Uncharted film starring Tom Holland, which is currently in post-production, Sony will focus on God of War, which is expected to begin filming next spring ahead of the planned release by Sony in 2022.
The God of War casting process is already paying off. As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Gerard Butler has been chosen by Sony to play Kratos, the Ghost of Sparta, in the film adaptation of the video game franchise.
Butler is known for films like Law Abiding Citizen, Gods Of Egypt and 300, where he played Leonidas, the king of Sparta… go figure. With this background, becoming Kratos will be a piece of cake for Butler in the God of War movie, Spartan blood runs through those veins.
God of War art director Raf Grassetti has confirmed that he is involved in the project process of the God of War film putting his talents at the service of the production company.
Grassetti has commented on social networks that in the next few days he will share some basic conceptual art works of the characters that we will see in the film. And, in addition to Butler, the casting process leaves us four more signings. Aidan Gallagher (The Umbrella Academy), who will play Atreus, the son of Kratos.
But that’s not all: Idris Elba, who plays characters with divine overtones, will become Baldur and prepares to give Kratos trouble. Freya will be played by Melissa McCarthy and Fernando Simón will make his film debut as Odin. More news about the God of War movie, which already has a great cast of stars, will be released soon.
