The idea was that the first ‘Hellboy’ trailer was going to come out on Thursday, as Lionsgate had anticipated when they released a poster and a teaser earlier in the week. As it sometimes happens in these cases, someone went ahead and published the full trailer, which curiously had already leaked at the last NYCC, so there was probably no choice but to release it.
‘Hellboy’ brings us back to the beloved red demon that was presented for the first time in theaters thanks to Guillermo Del Toro. On this occasion, the Mexican director is not part of the project , and everything falls into the hands of director Neil Marshall, who reboot the story we had followed in the previous movies and brings us a new and fresh vision of this peculiar and fun comic.
This first impression seems to maintain the humorous, fun and action-packed tone that depicts the character, only now it is played by David Harbor , who appears to do a great job just like Ron Perlman. He seems to have adapted to the role perfectly.
For this film, the story will revolve around Hellboy and his confrontation with Nimue, the ‘Queen of Blood’ , an ancestral spirit that seeks to end all humanity. Nimue, played by Milla Jovovich, was Merlin’s mistress during the reign of King Arthur. From him she learned the spells that led her to be one of the most powerful witches, but the madness ended up seizing her and imprisoned the magician for all eternity. Centuries ago, they managed to destroy this villain, burying her deeply, but has returned from the dead with the intention of destroying humanity with his black magic.
The rest of the cast is complemented by the great Ian McShane, Sasha Lane and Daniel Dae Kim. ‘Hellboy’ will be released on April 12, 2019 , which is 15 years since the premiere of Mike Mignola’s first adaptation of comics by Guillermo del Toro.
