Blue Demon, a Mexican wrestler will be the inspiration for a new Disney+ series.
The story of the wrestler Blue Demon Jr. will be brought to the screen in series format by Disney+, who wants to highlight the legacy of the lineage that’s representative of this Mexican wrestling family; both in the ring and in the cinema.
In the pilot episode of this new production; The Legacy of Blue Demon, one of the main historical figures of Lucha Libre in Mexico , will be explored through his adoptive son, who continues in wrestling, explained Dan Carrillo Levy, one of the producers of the project.
Mr. Carrillo Levy explained that being Mexicans is in our DNA and we are proud that our first project revolves around Mexican wrestling. It is going to touch on topics that are known to the Latino community. We are also interested in making children feel identified, just as I saw the movies from Blue Demon Jr.’s dad.
The plot of the series is developed around a girl, Violet , who under the help of Blue Demon Jr; her uncle and a superhero known to many, is chosen by a magic mask to become a superhero and continue the legacy of her family.
On whether the reason for bringing a girl in the main role is due to trends in female empowerment; Carrillo Levy explained that it is a coincidence, since the project has been developed over TEN years.
Mr. Levy also shared that it was not planned, it was to give it a new light. We liked playing with this new character and the idea of a niece of this age was a good idea and not so cliché in presenting something that has not been seen. It is important to present an ordinary girl, and include his friendly relationships, along with his parents and his uncle.
Likewise, Carrillo Levy emphasized that values, both for Disney and for producers, are quite important, so topics such as “family, honor and legacy, but above all – what the mask means” will be explored.
Without being able to give specific details, especially about the characters that will accompany Blue and Violet, the producer announced that they are cooking up surprises in the selection of heroes and villains throughout the series.
Mr Carrillo Levy emphasized that they will be surrounded by incredible characters, both on the side of the good and the bad. It will be a rainbow of races, of color, something fun and real. It is current affairs in the world, which is globalized.
In turn, as it has always been a tradition in the world of Disney, music will play a crucial element in this project; whose release date is still unknown.
Music has always been something very important to Disney, it is one of the things that unites Latinos, as the series progresses audiences will be very impressed.
The script for the series was created by Dan Hernández and Benjamin Samit, who wrote “Detective Pikachu” (2019), which is why it is expected to be “unique and authentic” material.
Carrillo Levy concluded with the idea that they are betting on authenticity; which is important for Blue Demon, for Disney, and for them.
