Have we developed a high tolerance for questionable CGI? Did scenes that seemed terrible at some point acquire an nostalgic fondness over time? Anything that compares to ‘Star Wars’ is automatically better? The answer to these questions is undoubtedly hidden between the declarations of the team of ‘Aquaman’ and the enthusiasm of the fans of this hero from DC that does not stop awakening an overflowing expectation.

Entertainment Weekly

Entertainment Weekly launched the first glimpse of the Fisher King and his entourage, an image that screams CGI for each of its pixels (although according to its director has not been generated entirely by computer) and, frankly, at the same time it reminds us of Steppenwolf, the villain of ‘Justice League’ under which the only thing that we found appealing was Ciarán Hind’s voice. But the frame has not caused a sensation in the networks for anything that has to do with the previous work of DC, perhaps because faith in James Wan makes us forget about previous disasters; but because of its similarity to ‘Star Wars.’ Jason Momoa, protagonist of this new endeavor of Warner is about a lone hero seeking success just like ‘Wonder Woman’, he stated, the similarities with the other films were important: “It has that ‘Star Wars’ style with giant ships and guys that go mounting on sharks, it’s going to be a whole world we have not seen before . ” His co-star Ludi Lin agreed with the actor claiming that Wan described his vision as an underwater “Star Wars” because thats what he wants.

All this is very encouraging prior to the publication of any image but, after the first look, is it surprising that DC fans are still excited? It does if we remember how the followers of the films created by George Lucas of which his top representative decided to include in ‘Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace’ an underwater city inhabited by creatures that did not fail to excite anyone.

Now DC fans are captivated because the scenery surrounding the Fisher King and company is reminiscent of Otoh Gunga.

The scene of the underwater city from which poor Jar Jar had been expelled for being more clumsy than anything else has always been a reminder of the type of movies the prequels were. What is often underestimated was how incredibly advance the field of special effects were back then.  We want this movie to be a successful film, that it makes us feel like we want to live in an under water world.  Fans want to be left with a desire to be a part of the Atlantean world. Lets hope Aquaman delivers that.
