Anya Taylor-Joy (The Queen’s Gambit) will play Cinderella in BBC’s Cinderella: A Comic Relief Pantomime special. Olivia Colman (The Crown) will play the fairy godmother and Helena Bonham-Carter (The Crown) will be the evil stepmother Lady Devilia. The stars will perform in the safety of their homes for the Comic Relief special, which airs on Christmas Eve and will come to life with art by iconic children’s illustrator Quentin Blake.
Cinderella: Comic Relief Pantomime is executive produced by Richard Curtis and the cast also includes Guz Khan, Tom Hollander, Regé-Jean Page , Jimmy Akingbola, Daisy May and Charlie Cooper. The BBC promised other cameos, including an “incredibly famous person wearing an incredibly unconvincing horse costume”.
The show was written by the Dawson Brothers, based on an original screenplay by Ben Crocker and directed by Matt Lipsey for Crook Productions. Cinderella: The Comic Relief Pantomime will air on the BBC on December 24th. During the broadcast, audiences will have the opportunity to donate to Comic Relief projects that are working to help people who are without food, mentally ill or feeling lonely and insecure this Christmas.
