Are the live action remakes from the Disney animation classics necessary? Many may not think so, but after seeing the numbers they generate at the international box office, it is clear that the trend is not going to stop.

Will Smith as the Genie was mocked right from the get-go of the initially released image, and the international critics were quite lukewarm about their reactions. But, even so, Aladdin managed to raise more than 929 million dollars worldwide, giving free rein to Disney to start working on a sequel to the remake. As the website We Got This Covered reports, the studio is already developing the sequel to Aladdin, which will also follow the same path as the original one and will be based on The Return of Jafar animated release.

As it hasn’t been officially announced, it is not known if the original cast from the remake will return wich included Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Naomi Scott as Jasmin, Marwan Kenzari as Jafar and Will Smith as Genie. Although the most normal thing is that Disney has tied their contracts for possible sequels. The one who might possibly not return for the sequel is director Guy Ritchie, but I guess we’ll wait and see.

At the moment, Disney releases the remake of The Lion King on July 19 and on March 27, 2020, the real action remake of Mulán. They also have in development the Little Mermaid whose signing of a non-Caucasian actress to play Ariel has raised controversy among some fans on the internet.
