Hey, Nerds! We’re here because we wanted to let you know that X-Morph: Defense – the game that we’ve been working on for the past 5 years is finally out. If you haven’t heard of us before (you probably haven’t) – we’re EXOR Studios, the team responsible for Zombie Driver and D.I.P.R.I.P. (a Source Engine mod for Half-Life 2).

In X-Morph: Defense we combined an intense twin stick shooter with a tower defense game. We’ve made sure that the shooter part is especially satisfying by making the entire game world destructible and giving you plenty of weapons to blow stuff up

The destructible environment is something that we are especially proud of. All objects in the game can be destroyed. For example, if there’s a huge skyscraper that is blocking your view – charge up a dark matter bomb and cut it down. If you destroy the bottom part then it will collapse. If you blow it up in the middle, then it will break apart. We calculate the tension, compression, etc. to simulate of a given building should collapse.

One of the best things about the destructible environment is that it influences game play. One of the core aspects of the game is tower defense. You can block your enemies paths using your towers, or you can do that by collapsing buildings and blowing up bridges.

We wanted the whole environment to respond to your actions, so we’ve also created a special system for bending trees that makes them respond to all shockwaves from explosions. Trees can also catch fire and if they are standing close to each other then the fire will spread making a whole forest burn.

One more interesting mechanic that we’ve included in the game is gathering debris. All of your enemies break up into lots of individual pieces that can be gathered for additional resources.

A game about aliens wouldn’t be complete without huge towering bosses. Humans are desperate to destroy the X-Morph and they are willing to sacrifice their cities. During these battles, you will be able to use the environment to your advantage. Collapse buildings to divert a boss or hide behind a skyscraper to avoid being destroyed.

We ‘ve almost forgotten to say that there’s also split screen coop included. You can play the entire campaign with a friend sitting on the same couch. There are additional enemy waves in this mode so it’s worth replaying the game.
