Now that we have Jared Leto and Joaquin Phoenix playing the Joker it would seem crazy for Johnny Depp to join the club.
The Batman won’t hit theaters until spring 2022, but there are already plans for the sequel and they even want to do a trilogy. As we already know the Matt Reeves movie will feature plenty of Dark Knight villains, but they are saving the Joker for his next adventure. Well now that he’s available, after leaving Fantastic Beasts, Johnny Depp is very interested in taking on this coveted role.
Actor Johnny Depp is reportedly willing to sign on believing that, as with Heath Ledger and Joaquin Phoenix before him, the role of the Joker could finally earn him an Oscar.
Actor Johnny Depp has just lost a libel case in the British High Court, in which a judge ruled that a newspaper can legally call him a “wife beater“, even though there was credible evidence of abuse against his ex-wife, Amber Heard. We do not yet know what the long-term impact of this ruling will be, but Warner Bros reached an agreement with him to leave Fantastic Beasts 3.
His reputation may be restored if he gains an appeal in London and things go better in the various trials in the US. But for now, if they decide to introduce a new Joker into the already crammed DCEU, it seems possible that Johnny Depp might be chosen to play him. Especially since he wants the role and is even willing to cut his salary to give him life.
Nonetheless, it will not be official if they want a new Joker for The Batman trilogy, until the first installment is released on March 4, 2022.
