A Super Mario movie will be hitting theaters in 2022, Nintendo confirmed. The company also announced that the creator of the franchise, Shigeru Miyamoto, is involved in the project according to GamesRadar.

Super Mario is one of the most iconic symbols in the video game industry and pop culture as a whole. The games follow Mario’s adventures, usually in the fictional Mushroom Kingdom, where he is accompanied by his brother Luigi and other beloved characters in the franchise.

According to Nintendo, Super Mario will be a CGI animated film with the involvement of Miyamoto (who in addition to Mario created Zelda and Donkey Kong ) and Chris Meledandri, founder of Illumination (the studio behind the Minions).
