Francis Lawrence, director of the first film, revealed that he had conversations with the actor about the production of the second part.
Although it is now called one of the best productions in which the actor participated, at the time, the film did not have a great reception by the public and specialized critics.
Constantine, released in 2005, is considered a dark story and undervalued by critics. The feature film is based on the Vertigo comics and starred Keanu Reeves.
Although it was confirmed that Keanu Reeves will not be participating in a new movie of the same character, in an interview with Slashfilm, the director of Constantine, Francis Lawrence indicated otherwise.
The director said he is in talks with Reeves and producer Akiva Goldsman to discuss a possible sequel to the film.
This could interfere with the Constantine project that JJ Abrams is in charge of, however, JJ Abrams has a lot to make up for to convince fans about his ability to deliver a great movie, since his Star Wars sequels didn’t do to well. According to Lawrence, they want to make a movie with a lower budget than the original, and with an R rating geared towards an adult audience.
However, the filmmaker added that the conversations have not gone beyond informal talks: “I don’t even know who currently has the rights.”
It is just a matter of waiting to see if these meetings yield a tangible production. Although it is interesting to note that Keanu Reeves does not want to abandon the character of John Constantine, he doesn’t like to disappoint fans.
