Donny Cates and Nic Klein have taken on a gigantic mission to bring about Thor’s next comic. The plot will yield an enormous threat not only to the god of thunder but the entire universe as well.
In the pages of Thor #1, which was published on January 1, the creative team delved into the idea of ‘The Black Winter’, a phenomenon that is also known as The Star Plague, an event that left Galactus seriously injured and was also responsible for the destruction of his world.
But if a rundown world eater is not enough to make you realize the danger posed by ‘The Black Winter’, Cates and Klein have included the DC Universe to show how alarming this event really is. As you can see below, the preview of Thor #2 shows the effect that ’The Black Winter’ has in a world that is not part of the Marvel Universe.
However, as the story progresses it becomes clear that this is the DC Universe, in fact, that’s Metropolis in the panel, and the greatest heroes of that world, the Justice League, preparing to combat the impending destruction.
However, Superman, Flash, Batman and Green Lantern are not able to stop The Black Winter and while Thor, as the new herald of Galactus looks on from the distance, the DC universe is destroyed. You can see the first pages of Thor #2 below:
Obviously this unexpected crossover does not directly mention the heroes from DC, for now nothing suggests that it will have any effect on the continuity of other stories.
However, it is still a crucial to reaffirm the danger Thor faces and why it is essential that he manages to stop ’The Black Winter’. In addition, this will inevitably lead fans to speculate on whether this is proof of major plans that will jump on to the big screen.
