Sequels don’t always give you something unexpected to add to the previous release. However, some sequels are well planned as an ongoing storyline, like Star Wars or Harry Potter. The second version to the original film just happens to be bigger, louder, and more intense. Character development and most of the storyline is practically written and rewritten for the franchise. Therefore, Pacific Rim 2 can focus more on the fighting, choreography, and action-packed scenes.

In case you didn’t know, Guillermo del Toro was the director to the original movie, now producer for Pacific Rim Uprising.  Hence, you can expect lots of quality monster detailed characteristics and great CGI. The movie builds it’s twists and turns to the plot throughout most of the movie until the last 20 minutes or so. The reason why the Kaiju fought in the cities is revealed.  This sets the tone for the main storyline twist. The cool thing is that we not only see the Jaegers fighting the Kaiju in this movie, but also the Jaegers fighting Jaegers. And yes, Jaegers fighting Jaegers does sound like dubstep music. I don’t really want to tell you whose controlling the antagonist Jaegers because it will ruin the entire movie for you. Just know that it contributes to the many sci-fi surprises you might enjoy. The obvious climactic open-air battle between good and evil leaves you wondering, “how the heck are they going to stop this freaking Kaiju!”

John Boyega who comes to us from the “Star Wars” franchise takes the leading role and guess what, he also takes part of the producing credit along with Del Toro. He plays Jake, the son of Idris Elba who led the Jaeger riders in the first movie and is known as the original world-saver.

Cailee Spaeny who stars as Amara Namani, is a super smart and tough teen. She builds her very own Jaeger named Scrapper! Amara fangirls throughout the movie about the Jaegers and the fact that she gets to control one. Jake (Boyega) and Amara become master and padawan respectfully. Together, along with some other Jaeger riders, they overcome the new challenges brought abought by the alien race that threatens our world.

We recommend you watch Pacific Rim Uprising if you’re an action-packed movie buff. The storyline is good enough to keep you entertained but not unpredictable in terms of what the end result will have to be.  What is surprising are the plot twists. The Jaeger and Kaiju CGI will blow your pupils away. If you’re a Nerd or Geek, you’ll want to start building your Jaeger cosplay as soon as possible. We leave you with a scene form the movie that boasts it’s CGI.

Not impressed? Aright, then at least consider the final trailer release from Pacific Rim Uprising.
