When we think of horror and suspenseful films, The Silence of the Lambs is one of the most acclaimed movies to watch. Based on the eponymous book by Thomas Harris, the film adaptation was a great success, including being the first horror production to win the Oscar for Best Picture.

In the film, Hannibal Lecter mostly uses the color white – and there is a reason for that. The choice of this particular color was made by star Anthony Hopkins, who insisted on wearing white to prey on the fear that many people already have about doctors and dentists.

Hopkins’ performance as Hannibal Lecter is iconic, one of the reasons was his unique and enigmatic way of speaking. In an interview, the actor explained that he had an incredibly specific justification for choosing the character’s voice.

According to him, Lecter’s voice tone was a mixture of the famous writer and playwright Truman Capote and the actress Katharine Hepburn, considered by many to be the biggest movie star.

Surprisingly, Hopkins was not the first choice for the role of Hannibal Lecter. In fact, Gene Hackman was the initial actor to play the killer.

Hopkins’ victory in the Best Actor category was highly criticized at the time. Despite the striking role, the star appears only for 16 minutes on screen, a considerably short time.
