According to Deadline, Universal Pictures hired actor and director Ron Yuan to direct the sequel to ’47 Ronins‘, an action movie starring Keanu Reeves in 2013.
The continuation is the result of a partnership between the studio and Netflix, who will be responsible for distributing the film.
For now, there are not many details about the sequel, except that the plot will be set 300 years after the original and have a cyberpunk look.
Still without a premiere date, production should start in the next months of 2021.
For those unfamiliar, Yuan directed ‘Step Up China′, and played Sergeant Qiant in the live-action for ‘Mulan‘.
In an interview with the portal, the star said he is excited to work with the studio and explore the different genres of production.
The original feature was directed by Carl Rinsch, based on the screenplay by Chris Morgan and Hossein Amini, and has become a critically acclaimed movie.
